Welcome to Independent Midwives UK, formerly the IMA. Whether you are a parent-to-be seeking the best care for you and your baby, or a midwife wanting to practise your role to its fullest extent, we hope that you will enjoy exploring our website and will find all the information you require.
Independent midwives are fully qualified midwives who, like our NHS colleagues, are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. See our FAQ for more information. We believe that women should have continuity of care from a midwife who will support them throughout their pregnancy, birth and the early weeks of motherhood.
Independent Midwives UK represent the majority of independent midwives in the UK. The organisation is committed to improving maternity provision for all women in the UK and is working with other support, service and professional groups, including the Government, to achieve that objective. Independent Midwives UK also provides professional advice and mutual support for independent midwives.
Independent Midwives UK has recently undergone organisational restructuring and as a result our website is constantly being altered. The website remains live so that women can still access an Independent Midwife but please be aware that some of the content pages are still under construction.
